Green tech as light as a feather

Chicken feathers may hold the key to kick-starting a viable hydrogen economy.

Storage solution ... carbonised chicken feathers compare to carbon nanotubes

One of the weightiest problems holding back attempts to turn hydrogen into a viable automotive power source is that hydrogen just doesn't pack the same power punch as petroleum. Thus it must be compressed to avoid having to equip cars with fuel tanks the size of zeppelins. Pressurising it not only consumes a great deal of energy but creates a liquid fuel far heavier and far more explosive than a standard fossil fuel. Big problem. But scientists are now working on a solution that is literally as light as a chicken feather.
